Throughout the last decade of war, junior leaders within the U.S. military have gained invaluable on-the-job experience in diplomacy, intelligence, and law enforcement. With the war in Iraq over and the war in Afghanistan winding down, the U.S. government must take advantage of this unique window of opportunity to re-employ its combat veterans in new roles outside of the military. A failure to do so isn’t just a disservice to veterans, but a disservice to the nation.
